England Thrash Iran 6-2 in World Cup Opener
Dominant Performance from the Three Lions
England got their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 campaign off to a flying start with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Iran in their opening Group B match. Gareth Southgate's side dominated the game from start to finish, scoring six goals and creating numerous chances.
Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka Shine
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for England in the 35th minute with a well-taken header. Bukayo Saka doubled the lead just two minutes later, and Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 before half-time. Saka added his second and England's fourth goal in the 62nd minute, before Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish completed the rout late on.
Iran pulled two goals back through Mehdi Taremi and Sardar Azmoun, but it was not enough to prevent a heavy defeat. England's victory puts them top of Group B after the first round of matches, while Iran will need to bounce back in their next game against Wales.
